The point is to be sure a lack of volume is causing the shadow, since that is what filler treats. Next, you and your specialist settle on a small quantity and precise placement, and talk through how this fragile area usually responds. The skin is then cleansed. Filler is placed slowly, in small amounts, and the result is checked as the work goes on, so the line from lid to cheek stays smooth and even. Aftercare is explained before you leave.

The first few days at home

Thin under-eye skin swells and bruises easily. Expect the swelling and bruising to clear over 1 to 2 weeks, and plan photos and occasions around that. Cold compresses and a raised pillow at night may be part of your instructions, and they are worth following closely. The softer transition from lid to cheek may be visible early on, but the swelling can blur it, so judge the result once the area has calmed. Anything unusual in those days is worth a call to the spa.
